Who remembers this 1979 hit?
As soon as I sat down yesterday to write about videos the song popped into my head and was on 'repeat' just about all day.
Whilst it was going on in the background, I did manage to write the second part of my blog post from last week. It's all about VISUAL social media; how images, whether static or moving, enhance written content, making it more engaging and immediate, more 'sharable' and how they can have a positive impact on your business or blog.
2014 is going to see a rise in video marketing so I'd recommend
famialiarising yourselves with four video creation tools and make them part of your marketing plan this year.
First up is YouTube, of course.
Incredibly it's the 2nd largest search engine, besides Google, and they're both linked.

You have the potential to reach out to hundreds of new clients every day.
Setting up your own YouTube channel or page is very straightforward.
You can personalise it for your business by adding a background image (pull through your business logo here if you can or images found on your website for continuity). Write a synopsis about yourself or your brand which is SEO friendly to enhance your page rankings on Google. Add links to other social media platforms, to your blog or your website so that you're easy to find.
YouTube is a great way to engage with your customer or client. Make a short, 5-minute video introducing yourself or your business, introduce your team members to add a personal touch. Once that's done you can easily embed your video into your website or blog for a professional touch. Clients can see who you are which helps break down barriers and opens up communication channels.
Social media is also about sharing information, being informative and helpful to others. Think who might be your 'ideal client', what might interest them and post some quick, “How To” tutorials, for example, or general information about your business. Make yourself the person they turn to for information and you'll enhance your business reputation.

Next up has to be YouTube's rival, Vimeo.
Vimeo has just launched a new format; here's its own little video presentation.
The benefits are said to be improved video speed, it has a better interface and improved clarity. Vimeo has included some neat social media buttons which make the videos easy to share and embed into your blog or website.
Why might you choose Vimeo over YouTube if you're marketing a brand?
For a start Vimeo's interface is much cleaner and not crowded with adverts. It also enables you to pull through your own branding and images and embed your own logo into your video, unlike YouTube.
Although Vimeo has a much smaller following than YouTube, according to Mashable, Vimeo still gets, "... roughly 70 million unique visitors a month".
Being smaller than YouTube does have its benefits. Because it doesn't have such a vast reach it tends to attract a more informed and discerning audience which could benefit your business.
Vimeo also has a better analytics whereas YouTube's is quite basic.
In my last blog I talked about Twitter reducing the blog right down to a microblog of 140 characters.
The little "Vine" videos have done the same thing in a visual way when it launched the tiny, 6-second video clips via a mobile app this time last year. They do exactly what Twitter pics do for marketing in that they're eye-catching, generate more interest and increase the likelihood that your content is going to be shared.
I read an interesting article by Donna Moritz from "Socially Sorted" in which she talked about "snackable" social media which provide, "... a visual 'snapshot' of an idea, concept or story". They're little bite-sized chunks of information which don't overload the reader with too much information.
Vine is a good example of "snackable" social media. Here's a great INFOGRAPHIC from "The Drum" which indicates that,
"... a branded Vine video is 4 x more likely to be seen than a regular branded video".
SproutContent said about Hangouts on Air,
"Google's broadcast forum is a powerful content marketing tool. A live conversation allows brands to share their story to an unlimited audience."
No equipment needed, it's totally free to use and links up with your YouTube channel so that anyone who couldn't attend your Hangout can view a recorded version later.
A Hangout on Air can be used for:
- music video marketing;
- Educational videos;
- "How To" live tutorials;
- Q&A sessions with customers; engage customers and put a human face to your business.
Here's Google's own 1-minute explanation of a Hangout on Air. It's a bit simplistic but you get the idea.
Hangouts are totally interactive; your audience can log in at a given time and post comments live for hosts to pick up and discuss during the Hangout.
Use them for work purposes also by hosting discussions with remote workers. Google Docs will enable you to work on, edit and share documents with your co-workers at the same time.
